To conceal is to protect.
Private note-taking. AES-256-GCM secured.
[ your words. your key. your machine. ]
Leynir Notes is a Windows desktop note-taking app built for those who believe privacy isn't a feature - it's the foundation. Everything you write is sealed inside a single encrypted .vnote file on your own machine.
No accounts. No sync servers. No company with access to your thoughts. The key lives only in your memory. The data lives only on your disk.
Every byte of your vault passes through AES-256-GCM - the same standard used by governments and banks worldwide. Your master password never leaves your device; it's stretched through PBKDF2 with 600,000 iterations before it ever touches your data.
Unlock with your fingerprint or face via Windows Hello biometrics - convenience without compromise. The vault key is wiped from memory on lock or close. Only a SHA-256 verifier hash ever touches disk.
Split-pane live preview, editor-only, or preview-only modes. Full Markdown — headings, tables, task checkboxes, code blocks, images, links. Click checkboxes right in the preview.
Built-in highlighting for JS/TS, Python, HTML, CSS, JSON, SQL, Bash, Rust, Go, C#, and Java — all inside your encrypted vault, no external tools needed.
Hide the sidebar and note list for a completely distraction-free full-screen editor. Press Esc to return. Write without the world in the way.
In-editor search with next/previous navigation and replace-all. Custom snippets too — type :date, :time, :name, :uuid and press Space to expand.
Snapshots auto-saved every 2 minutes, up to 10 versions per note. Accidentally deleted something? Restore any prior version instantly.
Nested folders with custom colours, drag-and-drop ordering, A–Z sorting, note counts, pinned notes, and bulk multi-select for fast housekeeping.
Deleted notes go to Trash first — never lost by accident. Restore any note with one click, or permanently remove it when you're sure. In an offline-only app with no cloud backup, that safety net matters.
A built-in 2×2 priority matrix — Do, Schedule, Delegate, Eliminate. Manage tasks per quadrant, archive when done. Embed a live matrix block directly inside any note.
Individual notes can have their own password, encrypted with a separate 100,000-iteration PBKDF2 key. A vault within your vault.
Unlock your vault with your fingerprint or face via Windows Hello biometrics. Falls back to your master password on any device that doesn't support it.
Re-encrypt the entire vault with a new master password at any time — without losing a single note, folder, or file.
Attach PDFs, Office docs, images, archives, and more — up to 25 MB per file. Multi-file upload and drag-and-drop. Open with your system default app, export to disk, sort by name, date, size, or type, and filter by category.
Export any note as a self-contained styled HTML file, print via the system dialog, or copy as rich text to paste directly into Word or Outlook.
Full-text search and tag-based filtering across all notes. Sort by date modified, date created, or title. Arrow keys to move through the note list, Enter to jump into the editor, Esc to return — Alt+↑/↓ to navigate while the editor is focused.
Dark, Dark Blue, and Light — each carefully crafted. Recent vault quick-access on the welcome screen. Auto-save after every edit. Resizable panels. Word wrap toggle. Word count and reading time always visible.
Configurable inactivity timeout wipes the vault key from memory automatically. Walk away from your desk without a second thought.
No accounts. No servers. No telemetry. No subscriptions. Everything lives in one portable .vnote file on your own machine.
Journalists protecting sources. Lawyers keeping privileged notes. Security researchers. Executives. Writers. Or anyone who simply believes their private thoughts should stay private.
"The best vault is the one that can't be broken, even if the file is stolen."
Source notes that can never be subpoenaed from a server that doesn't exist.
Vulnerability notes, credentials, and findings in an auditable, offline vault.
Your diary. Your ideas. Your life. Yours alone.
No subscription. No renewal. Pay once, own it for life.
